Visiting Assistant Professor of History of Art

The Department of History of Art invites applications for a benefits-eligible, Visiting Assistant Professor position for the 2026-2027 academic year to begin August 1, 2026, for a broadly-conceived position in Renaissance art. The successful candidate’s research and teaching might be anchored in Southern Europe but connect to wider geographies, with a preferred focus on architectural history and the built environment, and engaging with questions of gender, sexuality and the body, ethnicity and race, transcultural exchange, and/or environmental histories. The faculty member will teach five (5) courses. We look for applicants with experience teaching introductory lecture courses, the capacity to offer focused, thematic seminars in the applicant’s area of specialty, and the ability to contribute to the History of Art senior capstone experience. Candidates must have completed all Ph.D. requirements by the start date.
 
To apply for this position, candidates must submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a writing sample of not more than 10,000 words in length, and two sample syllabi, one for an introductory lecture survey in Renaissance art, and one for an advanced seminar in the applicant’s area of specialty to the Department of History of Art Search Committee via Interfolio. In addition, candidates should arrange for two letters of recommendation to be submitted via Interfolio to the Department of History of Art Studies Search Committee.
