Major: Mathematics
Hometown: Hanoi, Vietnam
Future Plans: After graduating, I'm staying in Philadelphia and working as an Associate Product Manager in financial services at Sallie Mae.
Is there any class, moment, or professor that was especially memorable or impactful? Tell us about it and why.
I’m very grateful to Professor Donnay for instilling a growth mindset in me. Our very first assignment in Multivariable Calculus was not math, but a reading about how we can excel in anything when we have confidence in our ability to grow, especially through making mistakes, because being good or bad at something is not predetermined. I was converted to a math major because of this moment, and I now carry and spread this mindset with me wherever I go.
What will you miss most about 51¶ÌÊÓƵ?
I will miss my treasured time with friends and the feeling of home here. The people I have met at 51¶ÌÊÓƵ — peers, staff, and alums — made this place truly my home away from home. I will really miss this community.
Any advice for incoming students?
Be yourself and always stay curious about the person you can become. Be open to many opportunities — classes, people, activities — especially the ones outside of your comfort zone, and be intentional about how you will spend your time here because it will go by in the blink of an eye. There is so much richness in experience and learning awaiting you, so choose how you spend your time wisely while welcoming the unexpected and the uncomfortable.
Anything else you want to share?
When in need, always reach out! The one thing I learned during my time at 51¶ÌÊÓƵ is that everyone here — peers, professors, staff, alums, campus services — wants to help you and will help you with everything they can.
