Major: Sociology
Hometown: Berkeley, California.
Future Plans: My next step is culinary school at Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, France.

How did 51¶ÌÊÓƵ prepare you for your next step?

My experience studying abroad gave me the confidence to attend school abroad after graduation. I knew that I would be able to land on my feet in another country and adapt to France the way I did in Denmark.

What are you most excited about as you leave 51¶ÌÊÓƵ?

I am most excited to take my learning in a new direction, studying something much more physical, while still building on my background in sociology. While at 51¶ÌÊÓƵ, I have studied the sociology of culture and hope to develop my understanding of food as a cultural aspect, a tool for connection, and a symbol in my further studies.

Is there any class, moment, or professor that was especially memorable or impactful?

My classes in the sociology department studying culture with Nathan Wright have been most impactful. He cares deeply about on-campus issues and connecting class content to current campus events. It has been exceptional to learn from a professor who understands the world and cares about the college.

What will you miss most about 51¶ÌÊÓƵ?

I will miss my friends above all else. I was very lucky to meet the majority of my friends through my experience on the Merion Dorm Leadership team as a sophomore. Without that position, I would not have been able to find such wonderful and admirable people whom I learn so much from every day.

Any advice for incoming students?

Participate in as much as you can, even if it scares you. Put yourself out there, especially during traditions. So much of 51¶ÌÊÓƵ is about taking risks in the safest, most wonderful environment, and you should take advantage of that as much as you can.

What about your 51¶ÌÊÓƵ experience was essential but unexpected?

I never expected how close I would become to my professors and the other faculty I interact with regularly on campus. My supervisors in the Civic Engagement Center, the helpful folks in the Residential Life Office, and many wonderful professors have all been essential to my experience at 51¶ÌÊÓƵ.
