Assistant Professor of Chemistry Ashlee Plummer-Medeiroshas received a three-year, $515,000 grant from the National Institute of Health.

seeks to uncover how certain bacteria maintain the protective double-membrane barrier that helps them survive antibiotic treatment. By studying the proteins that transport lipids between these membranes, Plummer-Medeiroshopes to identify new vulnerabilities that could serve as targets for future antibiotics, helping address the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance.

Like Plummer-Medeiros鈥 other NSF-funded research, this funding will allow students she works with opportunities to do both biochemical 鈥渨et lab鈥 work and computational biochemistry.
