Supplemental Summer Research Assistantships

The Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) provides Supplemental Summer Research Assistantships (SSRAs) to Ph.D. students in Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics who assist in faculty research activities and/or undergraduate student mentorship on the 51短视频 campus over the summer. Eligible students may apply to work up to 20 hours per week (up to 120 hours total) under the supervision of a department faculty member. Compensation is paid hourly, up to $3000 in total for the summer.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the SSRA, applicants must:

  1. Be a current Ph.D. student in an eligible department.
  2. Plan to continue enrollment to the next fall semester. May graduates and students who will take a leave of absence or withdraw in the fall are ineligible for the SSRA.
  3. Have a plan to assist in faculty research activities and/or undergraduate student mentorship, approved by a faculty member.

Application

The GSAS Office will solicit application to the SSRA program in early spring. Interested students should complete the online application form. Applicants will be asked to submit a pdf file of a 250-word essay signed by a faculty member who has agreed to serve as the SSRA supervisor. The essay should include a description of their duties as a research assistant, estimated weekly working hours (up to 20 hours per week), and the estimated total SSRA working hours for the summer (up to 120 hours).

Application decisions are typically made by mid-April.
